FocusWriter - documentation of tips on making it actually usable

FocusWriter - Gist

1. It’s very simple to use.
2. It’s got just the right level of tools and options you would casually need.
3. And it’s free.!!
The creator of this software suggests a donation of  $5 and up. It’s totally worth it. please do donate if you can afford.

In detail,

A great tool that i discovered recently for writing.
Focused writing = distraction free writing.
Take away everything that is not immedietly needed.
As good as having a single sheet of paper in front of you, waiting to be filled with words, your thoughts. Be it you blog, rantings for yourself, a great novel, a academic paper, a simple to do list, some notes to remember; all of it boils down to this single note. Its text and you have to put it down somewhere. somewhere fast and quick.

the lesser layers you have between you and your words the better. This is where FocusWriter comes in. It is in no way a unique product. some more options exist. Some people have figured ways to use already available tools to achieve the core effect of distraction free writing.

Still for a free option, it’s great.
Looks like it’s developed by one person for his wife.

1. Install

It is available for most of the popular operating systems. you have a mac, windows or even a linux device, you can still use this.
I love the fact that it is available in several platforms because it enables me to have the same tool across. I don’t have to learn a new tool to use at work and another to use at home.

Given my love for portable software, i prefer the windows portable version. http://gottcode.org/focuswriter/

2. Launch
3. Switch in and out of FocusWriter
4. choose a Theme  - Increase font size, choose color and layout
5. Get comfortable with basics. open a note  - write - update  - save
6. Basic editing
